FAQ - Hygiene Functions :-

What is a treatment or finishing?
Treating or finishing means adding more functional usefulness or a characteristic to a material that was not present from the beginning (for example, an agent to fight bacteria, dust mites, etc.)

Is an antimicrobial treatment even necessary?
People and animals have natural resistance thanks to their immune systems. Textiles, plastics, leather, etc. are not protected against infestation. GERMYCHECK treatment compensates for this with proved protection and lastingly hinders the increase of bacteria, yeast, fungi, and dust mites. This protects the functional characteristics of the fibers and contributes to the personal wellbeing of the user or wearer.

When I sweat, I also smell of sweat. Why should that be otherwise with textiles?
Bacteria multiply through cell dividing. Under ideal conditions, they can double their number every 20 minutes. Bacteria convert sweat into foul-smelling substances, which we find unpleasant and disturbing. This effect is directly dependent on the number of bacteria. The more bacteria multiply, the more unpleasant odors are produced. The GERMYCHECK hygiene function offers textiles the same protection humans get by using a deodorant. In both cases, the development of bacteria is controlled and otherwise odorless sweat is not converted into foul-smelling substances. Another advantage: Since no bacteria are formed, clothing can be washed at an energy and water-saving 30°C, and they can be worn several times, which are other ecological benefits.

To eliminate dust mites, wouldn't it be enough to use wood or tiles for flooring instead of carpeting?
Using wood or tiles for flooring is certainly one way to do this if you want to do without the comfort of a beautiful, thick carpet. However, most dust mites live in bedding. Just replacing textiles with wood or tiles is not enough to sufficiently eliminate dust mites.

FAQ - Products :-

How are GERMYCHECK products applied?
A GERMYCHECK treatment is introduced during the industrial manufacturing process, in other words, when a product is manufactured. One of our principles at GERMYCHECK is that our products are applied exclusively under controlled conditions during the industrial manufacturing process. Only this way is it possible to ensure that the application is done according to a precisely defined process and with the quality demanded in compliance with the regulations for protecting users and the environment.

How is the effectiveness of a treatment with GERMYCHECK products proved?
The effectiveness is confirmed through internationally recognized microbiological testing methods.

How is the antimicrobial effect of a treatment with GERMYCHECK products achieved?
GERMYCHECK applies various active agents from a broad palette of products depending on the material and the established protection objective. Different processes are applied in doing so. From this palette, different ingredients or combinations are selected, many of which are also used in the cosmetics industry. All of them are carefully screened for safety and innoxiousness.

FAQ - Safety :-

Is this treatment dangerous for humans?
GERMYCHECK products are safe for the skin and harmless to humans and animals. GERMYCHECK products are subjected to a critical evaluation in a consistent, established process, and they are only approved for use after tests have shown that there is no risk for humans and the environment.

Is it not possible that the effect in the textiles could be transferred to the skin?
GERMYCHECK products are safe for the skin and harmless to humans and animals. The only products used are those, which have proved in tests to be non-irritating and do not produce increased sensitivity. Therefore, no effect on the skin should be seen. GERMYCHECK has been active in this field for over 70 years. Throughout all of these years, there has not been one case, where a GERMYCHECK treatment caused a negative skin reaction. The quantities used are extremely small. The active agents are bonded with the textile fibers. Generally speaking, the active agents used for products for humans are the same as those used in the cosmetics industry. The skin flora is not damaged by wearing clothing treated with GERMYCHECK products.

What are the ecological advantages of treatment with GERMYCHECK products?
In many cases, the useful life of a finished product is extended. Treated products have to be replaced less often, which saves resources and thus produces ecological as well as financial advantages.
